Ok, sorry but this is seriously annoying me: this man is not a Viking/Heathen/Norse! He is wearing an Iron Age Finnish costume. I mean, we could get into the distinctions on what those words really mean and how it’s not all very concrete sometimes, but still. Maybe everyone already knows this, but I like to make sure. At the very least, he’s obviously not wearing a Thor’s hammer, but an Ukko’s axe (they curve differently). Not to mention, if you go to the source that’s linked it describes his outfit in great detail, down to the Finnish grave sites where the items these things are based on were found.
(Not yelling at anyone in particular, I just have a lot of feelings about people conflating Norse and Finnish culture, ok? It’s hard enough trying to find the info I want without them getting all lumped together)

He’s representing his native culture, rocking pre-Christian pagan symbols, and presenting himself as a proud Finnish warrior.
Seems pretty heathen to me.
Heathen =/= Norse.

Yeah, like I said, the distinctions on some of those words are fuzzy at times  :D
Most self-proclaimed Heathens I’ve met have claimed Heathen = Norse (or similar cultures: Anglo-Saxon, Germanic, etc.), so I assumed that was the general consensus on the word. I avoid the term for myself entirely, just to avoid confusion, and I believe at least a few other Suomenusko practitioners do the same.

I sort of extend the heathen label, personally, to Northern recon religions in general (as opposed to neo-pagans), but I certainly wouldn’t presume to call anyone a label they wouldn’t call themselves, so my opinion on whether Suomenusko practitioners are heathens isn’t all that relevant.
